Meet the 2023-2024 E-board!

President - Charis Paz (Cochran)

Hello! I’m Charis (Pronounced like Keras if you are familiar with machine learning 😊 ) and I am a PhD candidate in the Music Entertainment Lab studying Electrical engineering. My research deals with deep learning applied to music, specifically I work on training models to recognize instruments out of a musical piece. I joined DGWiSE two years ago as Social Media Chair and then served as President last year. I have enjoyed working with the incredible team of women on the board to bring social, educational, outreach and mentoring events and experiences to the DGWiSE community! Outside of Drexel I love to paint, teach Mobi (my cat) new tricks, and shop and care for plants (I recently built a terrarium lamp!).

Vice President - Brianna Markunas

I’m Brianna and I am a PhD student in the Snyder Lab in the Chemical Engineering department working on organic electro-synthesis. I joined DGWiSE in my 2nd year, and my favorite memory so far was the renewable energy mini-course that we held at a local middle school for a class of 5th grade students. When I’m not in the lab or planning fun DGWiSE events, you can find me reading a book, dancing around my apartment, or going on little outdoor adventures (in Philly, that’s usually a bike ride or jog along the Schuylkill river)

Events Coordinator - Shreya Soni

Hi! I’m Shreya Soni and I’m a fifth year PhD student studying Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering. Specifically, my project involves developing drug delivery devices for systemic and local delivery as a therapy for chronic inflammatory diseases, like heart failure.
I’m super excited to serve on the DGWISE board again as Event Coordinator and can’t wait for all that we have planned this year!

Treasurer - Arielle D’Elia

Arielle is a 4th year PhD student in the Biomedical Engineering department at Drexel where she works on developing a delivery system that enables sustained release of chemically modified therapeutics. In her free time she enjoys volunteering, playing piano and singing in a small band. She is excited to start her role as treasurer and is looking forward to a wonderful year!

Outreach Chair - Caroline Cameron

My name is Caroline and I'm a PhD student in Chemical and Biological Engineering. In my project, I analyze the environmental impacts associated with implementing a circular life cycle in the wind energy industry. I joined DGWiSE during my second year and love working with all these incredible women in STEM to bring outreach programs to our local middle schools! When I'm not working in the lab, I enjoy walking around the city, going into local coffee shops, and trying new recipes from my favorite YouTubers.

Secretary - Morgan Purcell

Hi, I'm Morgan, a second-year Master's in Data Science student at Drexel. I'm the Secretary of DGWISE and am currently on coop at Neuroflow, a medical technology startup. I'm passionate about the overlap between healthcare delivery and technology, and I'm excited to learn more about how data science can improve patient care.

I'm a Philadelphia native and would be happy to suggest restaurants and fun things to do in the city or teach you how to use SEPTA. I'm also a big fan of pottery, working out, and reading. I'm excited for another fun year in DGWISE and at Drexel!
